The Board of Directors for the United Way of Wilkes County, Inc. is proud to anounce that the Campaign Chair for the 2007-2008 United Way campaign will be John Q. Myers. United Way Board President Keith Bentley, in making the announcement, stated "The United Way of Wilkes County is fortunate to have someone with the leadership qualities and dedication to community betterment such as John Myers to be campaign chair in the coming year. With the help of everyone in the community, along with John's extraordinary vitality and determination, this will be a successful year for the United Way and its 30 partner agencies." Myers, a Wilkes County native, is Vice-President and City Executive for Yadkin Valley Bank in Wilkesboro. He attended Wilkes County Schools and received his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. John is married to the former Suzy Shumate, who is also from Wilkes County. They have two grown children; Brent a physician in Raleigh and Miriam who is a juvenile court counselor for Wilkes County. The Myers' are members of Wilkesboro Baptist Church where John has served as a deacon, a member of the church's finance committee and with the Baptist Men's organization. John has been very involved in Wilkes County. He is the past Board Chairman for the Wilkes YMCA and a current board member and past board chairman of the Pastoral Care & Counseling Center. He also servers currently on the board of the Wilkes Educational Foundation. John is a former member of the North Wilkesboro Lions Club, a member of the Wilkesboro Business and Professional Club and is a past treasurer of the Wilkes Chamber of Commerce. John also is a past trustee and board chairman of Wilkes Regional Medical Center and a past Wilkes County Commissioner. |

"Knowing that when we pledge our gifts to the United Way of Wilkes County, our resources stay within this county to help so many deserving people, makes giving easy." United Way Executive Director Rick Stegall said, "Working with John will be a great pleasure. He is a man with a huge heart and a great love for the people of Wilkes County. John will provide the leadership our 2007-2008 campaign needs." "The United Way of Wilkes County is challenged to meet the existing and emerging needs of our community. The United Way is determined to build strong relationships with community leaders, businesses and individuals to assist in meeting these needs. The United Way of Wilkes County, working with 30 partner agencies, is dedicated to improving the lives of our citizens and to build a strong Wilkes country," states Stegall. "'We're all in this together' is not just our United Way tagline, but truly how we feel," Concludes Stegall. In making the announcemet of Myers' selection as campaign chairman, Bentley also announced the 207-2008 United Way of Wilkes County's goal of $1,060,000.00. The 2007-2008 Campaign Kickoff will be September 25th at the Stone Center. |
