United Way of Wilkes’ 2023-2024 fundraising campaign we will be focusing on promoting self-sufficiency and reducing Poverty in Wilkes.  Please see video for more information.

Senior Companions will be collecting blankets, socks, gloves, toboggans and non-perishable food items for those in need during the month of January.  You can drop off items at their office at 626 Ashe Central School Road, Jefferson, or at the United Way office at 910 C Street, North Wilkesboro.

On May 24^th we presented our first college scholarship to Erik Villegas-Arriola at Wilkes Central High School.

This is a new program for United Way. As we are creating new programs to focus on self-sufficiency and reducing poverty in Wilkes.  We know what an important piece education is to both of these areas so our board voted to grant a scholarship this year to help a graduating senior on their way to a post-secondary education and career of their choice to help provide them with a better future.

United Way is pleased to announce as part of our new campaign platform, Promoting Self-Sufficiency and Reducing Poverty in Wilkes County, we are offering scholarships to Wilkes Community College for the upcoming 2023-2024 academic year.

An eligible candidate for the United Way of Wilkes County Scholarship will be selected based on the following criteria:

• Award to Adult Learner (≥ 20 years old)
• Wilkes County Resident
• Financial Need
• Requirement to support students seeking credentials in Applied Career Technologies or AAS degree programs.
• $1000 scholarship available for students in AAS programs; $500 scholarship available for students in certificate and diplomas programs.
